An Absinthe Affair…
Your humble administrator and professional Libertine Robert had the honour of conducting an absinthe tasting last week (at De Nom - one of the most beautiful rooms in Sydney), for our good friends over at Absinthesalon. It was a media-only event, and as far as we can ascertain it was the first stand-alone absinthe tasting to be held in Australia).

Gaye and Joop from Absinthesalon created an absinthe drinkers dream with their display of fountains, spoons and absinthes (French on the right, Swiss on the left), and live accordion music supplied by excellent Marcello of Sydney band Monsieur Camembert set the mood beautifully. We tasted:
Lemercier 45 with sugar
Kubler 53 sans
Mansinthe 66.6 with sugar
Verte De Fougerolles 72 sans
The reception was wonderful, and those assembled all seemed to both enjoy the absinthes and appreciate the differences in formulation and subtle nuances of each, as well as the absinthe ritual itself. They were also lucky enough to try some of Absinthesalon’s newly created absinthe chocolates, which promptly dissappeared in about 15 minutes. They really are very good.
So, look out for mention of absinthe in the Aussie media over the next month or two, you never know where we’ll pop up.
