Breaux’s Lucid Brews vs the TTB

A recent edition of New Orleans’ ‘The Times-Picayune’ is carrying a story about Ted Breaux, the man behind the drink behind the premium Jade absinthe label, and his latest efforts to reintroduce absinthe into the the United States through his new variant ‘Lucid’.

This coincides with the US Tobacco and Alcohol regulatory agency, the TTB, recently publishing a notice on the 16 October regarding the acceptability of absinthe in the US, provided thujone content is less than 10 ppm, and that

Any artwork or graphics on the label, advertising, and point of sale materials using the term “absinthe” may not project images of hallucinogenic, psychotropic, or mind-altering effects.’

As Ted Breaux, an environmental chemist, has confirmed through spectrometry of vintage absinthe - it is not the presence of thujone that makes the drink, despite the myths perpetuated by numerous less than honest purveyors of ‘absinth’ seeking to market the drink as a ‘drug’, rather than a connoisseur product.
